present, cattle feeders are losing roughly $250 per head for slaughter cattle. Backgrounders are losing a bit less and cow/calf cattlemen are feeling the negative pressure, as well. If you are old, have your mortgages paid off and raising your own feed, you are still short of breaking even on paper. High retail prices have no direct correlation to producer prices.
