had one house to sell and I had no need to buy another any time soon.

The guy I buy my ribeyes from has a supply of them and if I want to keep buying them from him he has to make enough profit to stay in business. Food is not something I want to purchase at the lowest possible price. I want my food producers and distributors to make enough profit that they do not see the need to cut corners to make a buck.

Despite what your little brain tells you it is possible for both the seller and the consumer to both benefit on the same transaction. In a healthy market that is exactly what happens.
