The Chase era was huge for Mizzou

The success Chase had taking a team that was barely able to make a bowl game to #1 in the country is unmatched by any other athlete. Brad Smith stated to fill the stands, but Chase cemented it. And that drives donations and makes money for Athletics and the University. Plus, it went beyond athletics. The athletic success drew a very large number of additional students to Mizzou and led to record enrollment numbers.
J'den Cox is a better athlete and had more success in his domain, but as others have mentioned, wrestling isn't a money maker and isn't something that people pay much attention to; and it doesn't drive enrollment to the university.
So Chase's success was more important to Mizzou. But it really depends on what ranking criteria is being used.
