that you choose to believe that assumption while simultaneously declaring all the other ones to be false? It's an opinion. It may be an informed opinion, but it's still a guess or a model that makes assumptions.

Obviously, the thing isn't as deadly as first believed. That's great. I'd like to be back in my office tomorrow, but, 30,000 deaths and counting is nothing that I take lightly.
