For some time the definition of a successful season at Mizzou seems to be:
1. Go unbeaten against a nonconference slate of lesser programs.
2. Play .500 football in the eight conference games for a four win, four loss conference record.
3. Overall season record is eight wins, four losses which will command a second rank bowl.
4. Tell fans after each season it was a success because the Tigers went to their umpteenth consecutive bowl.
5. Note the philosophy allows a certain slippage, i.e. an unexpected non-conference loss or an additional conference still allow a winning record and bowl appearance. Likewise, up to two additional losses still allow a six and six record and very possibly a bowl bid.
6. Also note if properly executed, it allows the coaching staff and athletic administration to remain in place.
