the primary driver in his struggles to turn the disaster he inherited around. Obviously Phillips wasn't a viable SEC caliber pg, and in his initial class he brought in Harris who didn't work out and transferred midseason. That caused that team to considerably underperform what could have been accomplished.
Then he went into year two with basically no pg options, bringing in Pinson as a freshman who was only ready for a bit role. That season tanked due to lack of pg play.
Then last year we went with Dru Smith playing out of position most of the year as pg, before Pinson established himself down the stretch and the team finally had some good performances.
If Cuonzo had been working with average to above average pg play over his first three seasons that would have made a significant change in direction in terms of achieved results. I'm still not really clear if that is due to a lack of emphasis on the pg or lack of planning/recruiting.
