But our receivers also struggled to get consistent separation. I believe they got enough separation frequently enough that a high-level quarterback could’ve managed it, but Bryant needed guys really open and our receivers could not do that consistently.
It’s kind of funny in a sad sort of way now. A year ago a lot of people were dead set that our offense was going to be great with him. I was routinely criticized for bringing up the point that downfield accuracy was his biggest shortcoming. Nobody wanted to believe it. At the time, I said that if we will adjust the offense to more of a short and mid range game and allow him to run a bit, it was possible our offense could be slightly more efficient, but there was no way that it was going to be nearly as prolific.
Now we have people out here criticizing Bryant‘s accuracy
