Chemo is a good example. It kills the cancer. It can also take out all the good stuff too and actually speed death.
It is always uncomfortable to discuss what amount of death is tolerable, but that is a calculus that occurs all the time. Otherwise we would outlaw cars. We would do lock downs every flu season. We would outlaw airplanes. We would not allow people to sky dive. I could go on.
I don't wish to downplay the major impact of what we are facing. But, we are turning so many lives completely upside down. We are destroying businesses people spent lifetimes to build. We are fraying the finances of many people who may never fully recover. Worth it? We will see. But we sure appear to be putting all of our chips on one number as the wheel spins.
