Looking at Jr & Sr years, Art averaged more minutes, points, rebounds, and blocks. Carrol averaged more steals.

It's all subjective, but I think some people think more highly of DM because of his pro career.

And to Fiji's other point, Paulding was slightly better than Denmon in most stats.
