Because that's what they're worried about. It's not about the impact to the large majority of the population, who will handle it just fine. It's that too many people get exposed at the same time and the result is more compromised folks who need resources than we have resources. So, just like cancelling all of these mass events, why wouldn't you cancel new entrants into the field?
