government debt... and hence their government bureaucracy?

Or you don't think more debt & bigger government didn't add a big drag on their economy?

Do you not think that increasing the taxes on Puerto Rican corporate income played a role in inducing some to leave the island? Do you think that would not have an adverse impact upon their economy?

Regardless of the reasons it was implemented, the Jones Act did raise the cost of living for Puerto Ricans who have significantly lower average incomes than those of us on the mainland.
----

Forcing PR to abide by the US minimum wage obviously and unnecessarily caused unemployment there. Perhaps that doesn't seem like such a big deal to you, but I'm sure it is to those out of work because of it.
----

Welfare played a significant role in devastating our inner cities and hurting the poor, counterintuitive though that may be.
