A company I worked for banned use of cell phones (but not hands free) while driving on company business citing the increase in accidents when that happened. Further studies demonstrated that hands free yielded the same risk as using your hands..so they banned any use while driving.
The basic philosophy when it came to the company safety culture was for everyone to return home the same way they left in the morning. Citing this evidence, the President felt it would be irresponsible to his employees to ignore the data in front of him......how would he react to that employee's family if they were to die while working.
When you look at it through that light, decision making may change....because once you start compromising your core values, you no longer have core values.
