Just when he was starting to get things going, the AP ranked Mizzou for the first time. The coaches did not. That week a reporter asked Pinkel about being ranked, and maybe snubbed by the Coaches poll. He said, "That's what I've always said, the media is smarter than the coaches."

This was after he had softened his tone with reporters quite a bit and it was funny for him to bring that up that way.
