Addiction (or anything negative) is part of the negative culture that society creates. Solutions can be creating a community where individuals do not always have to prove their betterment. Competition does not need to be cruel. Some companies are compassionate employers. Society needs to allow for low-cost education that can expand betterment. Hospitals and others are putting more money into support service that helps individuals not overload themselves. Also, addiction is stigmatized because individuals view their mistakes in prisms, rather than looking at situations. The best way to look at it is to merely say-I tried something (addiction), and it did not work. Individuals are more than their mistakes they also have talents, brains, and the ability to help humanity.
