And although it really doesn’t make me feel any better, I would point out that a lot of top 25 teams have had pitiful losses and near pitiful losses in just the first 3 weekends. There is a lot of parity and one hot pitcher can shut any team down, in a given game.
Need to process this a little more. Going 9-0 to start the season with wins over Minnesota, Ok St, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Baylor and Louisville was amazing. Now we are 3-5 in our last 8 games. Losing to the likes of Arizona, Minnesota, and James Madison, all top 25 teams, is no disgrace. But man the UC Davis and Seattle games were stinkers.
Although as I said before, even though Seattle came in only 4-9, this loss was not as bad as it seems on paper. Seattle has 2 good pitchers and has played a tough schedule. Yes, they got whipped by KU, which is an awful loss. But yesterday they gave #3 Oklahoma all they could handle in a 2-1 loss. And they have lost 1 run games to Arizona and Northwestern too. They are no pushover.
Our offense is really struggling now, the disparity between our top 5 hitters and the rest of the team is as wide as the Grand Canyon. Some of those players need to step it up. And when you are starting 3 freshman pitchers in nearly every game, you are going to have ups and downs. They are all very talented, and all just freshmen. Their job is to learn and grow and improve over the course of the year so we are ready to hit the ground running next year with a stud freshman pitcher from Colorado joining the staff, and challenge for a national seed and home regional in 2021.
