The only point I disagree with is calling it 'soft bigotry'.

I personally believe that lowered standards is the absolute worst type of bigotry.
The Klan in its heyday persecuted blacks because they saw them as some sort of threat. In a very perverse way that is acknowledging them as people who are somewhat your equal. If someone is truly beneath me I do not notice them or really care what they do.
When you continue lowering standards and excusing bad behavior you are telling the entire group that they are less than you and cannot be expected to follow the same rules as the rest of civilized society.
