Judge says one of Stone's motives was to 'shield' Trump. Notes Stone said he couldn't take 5th because it'd look bad for Trump. Judge notes Congress was GOP-controlled at time Stone lied, so it wasn't an anti-Trump cabal
Jackson rejects Stone's lawyers' complaints about the stress he suffered from high-profile case & publicity. “He was at the heart of a great deal of it. Through his press conferences and social media posting, he chose to stoke it.”
And she notes that the sentencing recommendation was correct.
Judge says the prosecution recommendation was correct legally and according to DOJ policy. But says she wouldn't have sentenced to 7 to 9 years despite "unprecedented" government actions of past week.
