He will get paid to play basketball for the next 10-15 years.
Staying another year wouldn’t necessarily make him an NBA player. He’s still a 6-10 center in an era where low-post centers aren’t valued, and he isn’t athletic/skilled enough to make up for that. But he’s big, athletic, and skilled enough to get paid a real salary internationally. Enough to get rich? No. But enough to support himself and his family (he has a daughter, I believe).
For guys in his situation, it likely comes down to whether the middle-class income he could earn right now is worth it.
