realize they are going down the toilet and there is nothing they can do to stop it, they try being honest.
They become rational.
They are objective, analytical and self critical.
They give credit to the other side.

The problem of course is that the stupids among us will think that this honesty is real and further,that it will carry over into the next election or even the next issue. The marxist left needs people to believe they are not the marxist left, but the loyal opposition.
So they lie.
The press assists.
The idiots believe them.
They become rational.
