I put off dealing with it and almost forgot, but a couple traffic lawyers sent me mail about dealing with it. It cost me a bit more upfront, but it got taken care of. Barely.
Very easy for young people without much life experience to put that kind of thing off then forget about it. For missed court dates related to basic traffic infractions, I always put the blame on the athletic department, not the kids. Kids make mistakes. The athletic department is supposed to ensure there are adults in the room to help those kids figure out the process.
Of course, that second link Stripes shared is a very different situation.
