Yes they will oppose, but only because they view any white dems as race traitors and on the side of the minorities.
Several Republican strategists have said this on their deathbed. Jon Erlichman and Lee A t water come to mind. They flat out admitted using race was their biggest strategy. Nixon, Reagan, Bush all used overt racism during their campaigns.
