Trump's didn't because no one thinking of supporting him thought he didn't have some piggish behavior in his past. Kind of the same with Clinton back in the day. They went in with these issues so voters were less inclined to be turned off as things came to light. When you are newer to the scene, it sort of depends on the perception people have of you. The more the reality separates from that perception, the more damage baggage can have.
