When we moved to Columbia in the mid 80's, the floor in Brewer was carpet laid over a layer of asphalt that had covered the dirt floor. Terrible surface to play on. Rothwell was still open and had old hardwood floors but everyone wanted to play in Brewer.
When they started the new REC wing on the west side of Brewer, they shut down that section and all we had was Rothweell. Then after the new wing was completed, they stripped the carpet and the underlaying asphalt to install nice shiny new hardwood. The last time I was in there it was very nice.
Had to give up playing after my knee finally gave out in 1998. The last time I was in the building was about 15 years ago.
