I would suggest that both Odom and Drinkwitz (sp?) were and are highly motivated. In fact, I would suggest that aren't a lot of SEC coaches that aren't highly motivated to win.
Mizzou's problems are structural, i.e. support for the program is less intense and widespread than the support enjoyed by a number of other SEC programs, a "home" recruiting area that does not produce as much talent as the "home" recruiting areas of various other SEC schools and fewer resources than a number of other SEC schools.
Notwithstanding these issues, Mizzou should be no worse than 3-1 or 4-0 in the nonconference games (shall we call them "scheduling victories"). That means a couple of SEC wins produces an overall 6-6 record and going .500 in the SEC means an eight win season.
The SEC programs are Mizzou's contemporaries and going .500 against your contemporaries is not an unreasonable goal.
