government have placed Detroit in a very precarious position and most companies are moving to a more favorable labor market. It has nothing to do with the current tariffs. Heck way back in the 70's the government tried to save the auto industry by placing tariffs on Japanese made vehicles, but the US auto industry saw it as an opportunity to increase profits and immediately increased exec pay and their bonuses followed by a huge increase in the union contract and boom imports were pouring in again. Detroit has done self-inflicted wounds and now needs another bail out, but what they need is massive labor and management reform in their own city and state.
