I think most of us agree the Iraq war was a mistake and it left a void.
But I believe certain elite in the US wanted to follow up that mistake with (among others) removing Assad. Surely you recall this. Obama, Hillary, McCain, all the cool people wanted this done. So we armed the virtuous rebels, who turned out to be ISIS. At about the same time, the Obama administration wished to normalize relations with Iran and sent them billions in cash. Iran supported Assad. So did our "enemy" Russia.
Does any of this make sense?
