1) The cover-up is always worse. It was horribly pathetic with Benghazi.
2) These folks agree to put themselves in harm's way and it may not be feasible to fully protect them. It's ok to say that, and like soldiers, they can agree to know the risks involved and still go. That's not politically feasible to say, but it's the hard truth that should have been said. Soldiers die. Firefighters die. Diplomats can die. It's the nature of the job.
In my mind, we should protect them or get them out, but I'm adult enough to know that people make other decisions sometimes. Politicians treat us like children because we whine like children. Nearly 50% of the population will whine about any choice that you make.
