As loudly as Trump cries his innocence, you would believe he would back up his public rhetoric. If McConnell has an interest in acting on the probable cause which lead to the charges, Trump might more seriously consider how a defense might be made.
In the court of public opinion, now a majority believes he should be convicted and removed. So, his “innocence” is being questioned for the Senate trial and in the court of public opinion. In a greater sense, for the history books.
