31 of the 50 shots taken today were by three players and there were 4 assists on 18 made baskets. Let's simplify this: players cannot gain confidence shooting the basketball when they take 5 or fewer shots for an entire game...and that is what the rest of the team did. Players need to see the ball going through the basket and part of that is getting a couple of quality looks early in the game. A leader realizes that if they don't get everyone involved and feeling good about themselves, then they'd better be prepared to score a ton of points by themselves.
Ayo is a selfish player. Imagine what the team might have been like with Horton-Tucker here last year...but why did that not happen?
Players won't say anything publicly because they know it will only make things worse but Ayo cares about one thing: Ayo. He's a "me first" player and he's killing this team. But there have probably been all kinds of promises made that if Illinois wants a pipeline to Chicago, Ayo needs to be the poster boy for those future players so they can see what can happen. Frazier is a far more mature player and leader. I'll venture that if Ayo got injured and missed the next 10 games, you'd be shocked at how well this team would play.
Underwood's hands are probably tied a bit because he sold his soul when he caved to the Ayo camp's demands that Horton-Tucker not come here.
