consequences of their actions have obviously never spent much time around teens. When I was first working in KCMO years ago I heard kids having open discussions about the fact that a juvenile record was expunged as soon as they turned eighteen and how to make sure they avoided getting charged as an adult before that happened.

Kids are impulsive and prone to make short term decisions but they are not stupid. The kid in this story knew what he was doing, he simply did not care.
