When we were hiring he was a safe candidate to think about. Then Memphis' has an opening and it looked like they were going to hire him. So we hired him out from under Memphis if I recall.

There's nothing about Barry Odom that I've seen that would indicate he may not be an excellent coach at some point.

I would rather have had Barry Odom in 2019 with a 35-13 record (or something) at Memphis for the past 4 years than a Barry Odom in 2015 with ZERO head coaching experience. While I hope Drinkwitz does well (obviously) I think most Mizzou fans would LOVE to have an alum as a head coaching hire with that (fictiional) track record.

Maybe Odom was the right person, in the right place, at the wrong time, for Mizzou.
