I don't know if he is smart or not but I can tell you

that he was way less articulate, authentic, and quick with his answers. Maybe it is just because he came from the Gary Pinkel School of "It's my fault, I am going to get it fixed" coach-speak but his answers gave me the impression that he really didn't have much of a plan. In fact, when things were really going wrong he had to resort to ridiculous antics like burning things in the locker room to get players attention. Not a great look and probably why he lost the locker room this year (couldn't think of any more things to get his players attention). He also didn't seem to judge people very well or manage their personalities (but that is another can of worms!).

I do think he can be a good head coach someday but he certainly wasn't able to get it right here. When he got punched in the mouth in-game he really didn't know how to adapt. Hell he really didn't know how to adapt to many issues in-season it appears. It may be that he should stay a coordinator and is not a strong CEO of a program (i.e., he is good at focusing on a few things but not so many moving parts and getting them moving in the same direction).

Drinkz gives me the impression that he has the capability to be a good CEO and one that can communicate and relate to people to sell his vision. I'm not sure it makes him smart but he has a plan, seems like he can adapt, and as he said in the press conference "Everyone has ideas, ideas are floating around everywhere, execution is not, not everyone can execute their ideas to achieve something." I really like that statement and I think that was a clear message to everyone that he expects them to do their job and have "low ego high output".
