Those 2 words have been used to justify more blood spilled, treasure spent, political gamesmanship and loss of individual liberty than any other words in the English language.
It can be seen in subtle changes like changing the title Secretary of War to the Secretary of Defense (who could argue with defense?), to the fantastic stories told ahead of the second Iraq War and to this critical engagement in Ukraine, a place I’d bet 75% of Americans could not find on a map.
There is always a boogeyman. Eisenhower was right.
