Hollender is an all around good recruiter and has very good connections with the AAU teams from KC, StL and Texas areas.

"I’ve been knowing both of those guys for years," Martin told the Tribune on Wednesday. "It’s almost as if Coach Cornell Mann and I came into this thing together. For years. Just a guy that’s battle-tested, been in the trenches for a long time. Well-respected in our profession. Extremely hard worker. Understands the game. The great thing about him is he’s been with different coaches, he’s learned different things. Obviously, he has his own blueprint, but just being around different guys, that can only help me.
"Same way with Hollender. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s worked with guys that I’ve been close to for years. He worked with one of my better friends in the profession in Rick Ray" at Mississippi State. "Kareem Richardson" of UMKC "is a friend of mine. Marty Simmons" of Evansville, "he worked for him — who I think is one of the best coaches in the Missouri Valley. We’ve been on each other for a long time.
"For me, guys that are not just Midwest guys but guys that understand the basketball piece, they kinda know what it takes to be successful, because they’ve been at these levels. Just hard-working guys that want to be a part of it. Guys that have tremendous opportunities at their current place or other opportunities, but they felt like this was a great situation. Happy to have them aboard."
“One word. Excited,” Mann said in a release. “To have the opportunity to coach at Missouri is very special, especially for someone like me who grew up watching a lot of Big Eight basketball. I started my career out at Colorado, so I was always following Mizzou growing up. The number of players from my home state of Michigan to play at Mizzou over the years is significant to me. Those teams under Norm Stewart were so good and fun to watch.
“Most of all, I’m excited to work with Cuonzo Martin. He is as good as they get in this business. He's a sharp man, a great father and mentor. We're the same age, but he has even been a mentor to me. I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead at Mizzou. It's exciting to come into a program at this type of juncture with so many possibilities ahead. We're all ready to hit the ground running and get to work.”
“Coach Martin and I have known each other for many years,” Hollender said in a release. “He is a man of great character and is one of the most forward-thinking minds in college basketball. I have coached against him in two separate leagues, including the Southeastern Conference. The SEC is a tremendous basketball league with storied tradition. I am extremely excited to once again coach in one of the best basketball conferences in the nation alongside Coach Martin. His teams have always embodied ultimate toughness and competitiveness, which I have respected.”
