officer's life at risk. In a line of work where everything is a judgment call, de-escalation should be the go-to if a person is unarmed because chances are the suspect is bluffing. Also, police make better decisions with higher pay, more leave time, and promotion opportunities. Also, the police must maintain professionalism during their employment, and the more that is rewarded, the better public relations.
