When Pinkel was hired he wanted a turf field, so that he could practice there regularly. Alden hired George Toma to consult and Toma recommended the field we have now, which conveniently happened to be manufactured by a firm he represented. Alden ordered it installed. However, the drainage and irrigation systems necessary for grass were saved and are buried under the new turf.
