Their basketball program was never "destroyed".
Long hired Bobby Petrino who took Arkansas to a Sugar Bowl BCS game, something MU never achieved.
After the motorcycle incident, he hired Bret Bielema after taking Wisconsin to a 3rd Rose Bowl.
Those were good hires that simply didn't pan out, in part because the SEC West has been the toughest division in the history of college football over the past decade.
