to remove statues that were erected during the Jim Crow or Civil Rights eras which were obvious attempts to glorify the cause of the Civil War and the values of white supremacy. Any statues or monuments that were built shortly after the war to honor the soldiers who died should be left alone. Any that were built to send messages when blacks were striving for equality should be torn down.
