Opposing trump probably is good for career, in terms of book deals, sweetheart jobs from like minded democratic fund raisers, connections.
It's the Lois Lerner IRS effect. She knew what she did was wrong, but she also knew her bosses wanted it done. She got bonuses, a full pension, and probably some nice side gigs in retirement.
Not a sniff of jail or inconvenience.
