President Donald Trump touted the document he ordered released about his call with the president of Ukraine a 'word-for-word' transcript – despite earlier White House statements saying it was less than that.
When the White House released the transcript of Trump's July 25 call, aides would not refer to it as a word-for-word representation of what the president said on the call.
Trump during two press appearances said the document of his 'perfect' conversation was, in fact, word for word, although the transcript itself says it is not verbatim.
'This is an exact word-for-word transcript of the conversation, taken by very talented stenographers,' Trump said.
He said releasing it would help him refute 'false claims' made against him, and cast the decision as a way to flip the script on Democrats going after him.
'All because they didn't know that I had a transcript done by very, very talented people, word-for-word, comma-for-comma, one by people that do it for a living. We had an exact transcript. And when we produced that transcript, they died,' Trump said.
