probably lose anyway isn't worth ruining a future season and having a dark cloud hang over the program for another year (which would negatively impact recruiting and have a detrimental cascading effect on future seasons).

The appeal helped to the extent that it allowed us to play out the current season with some hope that we were actually playing for something. If the appeal fails and the decision is upheld, then we will have an entire season without any post-season aspirations. The stadium will be virtually empty.
