You are right in the fact that the rivalry has lost it's edge. I think the edge left when Norm was forced out, he made and used the rivalry to his advantage.

Today, I'd much rather see us "put a whoopin" on Illinois. If we play KU, okay, if we don't play KU, okay......and I grew up lovin' the MU/KU game. Nobody gave us any better memories of the game than Anthony Peeler! Time to move on.
