almost always serve the middle but are very poor in their service to the fringes.
Private schools could probably effectively serve the top 80% of today's students with no noticeable differences, maybe even some improvements. But what happens to the bottom 20% that have severe economic, social and often physical barriers. Do you think the free market will invest the capital required to do an effective job with them? Or will they make a reasonable business decision and just cut them loose?
I think most free market solutions have the same limitation. They work well for most but how do they address those final few where their margins really shrink or disappear all together?
