But I will try.
I am not in favor of European style socialism. But there are things that individuals and even groups of individuals cannot do effectively and some form of social welfare is best.
Examples:
Roads
Schools
Public Safety
These things can be done locally on a relatively small scale and do not require an invasive government.
Some things are of a bigger scale and cannot be done effectively locally and need more input.
Examples:
Standing Army
Money
Foreign Affairs
Immigration/Citizenship
Regulating Interstate Trade
These things require more funding and would be a clusterf*ck if every state tried their hand in them.
Most other things I do not believe that the state (Fed) should be involved with. But the way our Constitutions are written state governments have almost unlimited power so if individual states wish to tackle issues like healthcare and minimum wages they are within their rights to do so. I would not personally support them but they would be legal.
