in Haiti and of course we are working in general terms to try and ensure Haiti is less corrupt and has free and fair elections and has a national police force that is operating under modern/democratic principles etc.
well, a lot of the UN advisors are from countries where all the same issues exist and from some countries where there are UN missions trying to stop the same ****. basically you're hiring people from corrupt sh*tholes to advise haiti that they are a corrupt sh*thole. Naturally these advisors do all kinds of scandalous sh*t
rape. molest. steal etc. I had two of my colleagues from Rwanda who killed each other.
but essentially it works like this, and this is mostly African countries involved in this, the UN pays well and it pays ESPECIALLY well in comparison to what someone from Africa would typically make.
so they sell the jobs. there will be someone in whatever African country who is the decision-maker as to who gets the advisor jobs. This decision-maker then gets a kickback from that person's salary once they are hired. so essentially they sell the jobs.
and of course, this leads to a lot of uneducated and unprofessional people who don't know what the **** they are doing getting jobs that they have no clue how to do.
and there is a UN policy of diversity. not of diversity of experience or competence but of race and nationality. so this leads to a lot of people who have no business or experience running things so naturally it just doesn't work.
just as an example my first boss was from Niger. I had to do almost all of his work b/c he didn't know how to even use Word let alone Excel or create a presentation.
I ended up finding out he was a tower guard at an airport in Niger somewhere. and yet he was running an entire regional operation in Haiti. Not well mind you and only b/c I and a couple of co-workers from India and the Phillipines did his job for him.
