To continue if you please:
Do HBCUs improve our nation, TODAY. I don't doubt that they were once a necessary and productive part of the american education system. But TODAY, with scholarships and affirmative action and all the other avenues available to blacks to get a college degree, is it a good thing to have essentially segregated universities where blacks will be virtually the only race of students on campus?
Should black students and black people generally be encouraged or applauded for wanting to be with their own kind, exclusively? Does that make the country better?
HBCUs are not like religious affiliated colleges where judaism or christianity is a tenet of the university philosophy.
If you agree that black segregated colleges are a good thing, i would ask if segregated dorms or clubs on integrated campusses are equally good things.
Generations ago, people marched to have integration because blacks were deprived in the nonsensical "separate but equal" school system. Integration was necessary.
But if blacks want to self segregate, is that good for the nation?
To be clear, i am not asking if anyone has or doesn't have there RIGHT to self segregate, only if it is good for our nation.
You thoughtful reply would be appreciated.
