My sister in law (who is nuts BTW) has a 'best friend' who has a developmentally disabled daughter. They met when the girl and my niece were both in elementary school-now both of the girls are in their mid 20's, so we've known them for close to 20 years. I don't really know/talk to the woman myself, she's kind of odd and I had no idea what their background is/why she was a single mother etc. but we have had them over for Thanksgiving or other big family get togethers as my sister in law and her are both pretty socially inept.
So 6-7 years ago we were house shopping, we looked at a house that belonged to a woman who was getting a divorce-she had several kids, 2 that my kids knew from school because they were in the same grades-although my kids didn't particularly like them. We didn't buy their house but soon after bought another one-and soon after that they ended up moving in with the woman's father, an old Pakastani guy who happens to own a house 3 houses up the street from the one we had just bought.
I met him and his wife once at a Christmas party another neighbor threw for the neighborhood. He's a standoffish creepy old guy (his wife was nice enough though). My kid would sometimes hang out with his grandson, although we didn't really like him doing it because he wasn't the kind of kid you'd trust. Another time, our 6 month old dog got loose and ran through his yard while he was standing outside (which he spends most of his time doing) and he got upset saying the dog should be on a leash-I get that he's right about that-but it was pretty clear the guy doesn't like dogs (another reason to not like him).
So the other day my sister in law is over, and sees the neighborhood watch list on the refrigerator-and sees the old guy's name and says 'oh my god' and asked if he is our neighbor. It turns out, this old guy is actually the father of her best friend's developmentally disabled daughter...years ago he had been a nurse at a hospital she worked at, and (as my sister in law tells it) spent all his time trying to screw everyone he could there-including her best friend. Her friend became pregnant by the guy, and he didn't want her to have the kid. And then after the kid was born he tried to suffocate the baby-which was the cause of her developmental problems. He got caught, was convicted, lost his nursing license and was sent to prison for several years.
All these years later he still has to send money to the mother of his daughter (which he resents) and for this reason is not allowed to know where she lives as she lives in fear of him.
Their daughter is actually the half sister of the woman we considered buying the house we from years ago, and is the aunt of the kids we don't like but my kids have known from school for over a decade.
So basically I have an old psychopath living up the street.
