can be used to track files shared. It is literally a digital finger print of who took a copy of a file, so if it is shared, the person who leaked it is exposed.
Another option is to used VDI. We do this with our overseas locations. They get a virtual desktop and cannot remove copies of files on to a portable drive.
All documents are embedded with flags that if sent through email, are scanned by data loss prevention devices that block flagged documents and send out notifications of the violation.
Encryption with TLS/SSL doesn't work either. We use SSL Decrypters that strip encryption, scan the data, then encrypt it again before sending to the internet.
Literally, the hardest thing to detect is if someone takes pictures of the screen with a cell phone. In office, camera record that.. time stamps of access to files narrows down who accessed it and when to look at video.
If at home signed in remotely, away from cameras, still identifies who all accessed it from home. That again narrows down who could be a leaker.
