and Mitch and Braun would end up there...some...if they play at all.

He's using the term "guard" loosely here and really means perimeter players. Meaning his 4's are going to be stretch 4's and not inside players. Mitch and Braun can play the stretch 4 and, as I just said, if they play at all they will play in that role at least some.
