Never really had issues in dealing with Unions

two companies my group bought because big time owners couldn't get deals with them
One was silly essentially the NY owners wouldn't agree to pay for steel toed work boots. I said if we paid they HAD to wear and if not the worker would be sent home w/o pay. In exchange for that I got changes in work rules where a machinist could operate two machines ( they would set lathe and then go to the other machine). They agreed and we saved much more money than paying for work boots
Second, company here in Mo said if we didn't buy they would be closed . Evidently didn't believe me and I addressed the whole group of workers---both shifts. They got the message --barely. We got a new contract by like a 215-185 vote after first time turned down like 185-215. End of day they were fine. Machinist Union
